For most of the rest of the twentieth century loyalist murals were painted each July as part of the annual ritual celebrations of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, when King William III (‘King Billy’) defeated King James II in a struggle over the English crown. In 1689, shortly after the Dutch King William III – better known as William of Orange – was proclaimed King Of England, Ireland and Scotland, he made gin, a traditionally Dutch drink, popular with the British people. At this time, anyone could distil their own alcohol by simply posting a notice in public and waiting a mere ten days.
King Billy 1690 Boyne. King Billy was victorious at the battle of the Boyne in 1690 on the 12th of July. Owner Gordy, Admin. Haverhill The Battle of Port Royal (19 May 1690) occurred at Port Royal, the capital of Acadia, during King William's War. A large force of New England provincial militia arrived before Port Royal.
